It is a crime film with plenty of action. The rest of the cast is excellent. This is a fantastic action movie. Cruise is very watchable and the character of Jack Reacher sort of unfolds as the movie progresses.

There's not a lot of depth here, the story itself is not that cohesive or compelling, yet the writing is great and Cruise delivers his lines perfectly and there is a sort of philosophical element.

There's some humor in here as well that is really quite priceless, dry and subtle. It makes the movie click. Also, the action sequences are really good, way above most action films.

They are not over the top and CGI laden but rather, simple, realistic and extremely well executed. The car chase is a good example.

The sounds, the camera work, the way Cruise runs through the gears. How many movie car chases have been done with a sound track the meshes perfectly with the car, the right amount of gears and synced to the actors shifts.

The devil's in the details and this movie sweats those details and it elevates it. There's nothing hokey about the action sequences, it is realistic and satisfying.
