I wasn't expecting much, but this is actually a surprisingly good low budget horror effort! The plot is simple: bunch of spring breakers wake up on the beach after a party, only to find most of their friends are gone and there seems to be something under the sand that is picking them off!
The concept is simple, the effects are poor and the acting is terrible BUT the film really makes good on its central idea.
The pace is brisk, and the tension is high for the majority of it, making it enjoyable throughout. It's not exactly original think a low key version of Tremors and much of the plotting is taken from other films but it generally works….
A high concept horror film that knows how ridiculous it is and keeps it's tongue planted firmly in its cheek. A group of teens spend the night partying on the beach, spirits are high as it's the first day of spring break but when the few remaining party goers wake up the next morning with sore heads and raging hangovers the last thing they need in their life is a sand monster with a thirst for human flesh.
It soon becomes apparent that anyone who sets foot on the sand will suffer a bloody demise and we end up with 3 kids stuck in a car with a dead battery, 2 kids stuck in a lifeguard tower and 1 kid,….
Review by James 2. Holy shit I loved this movie! For such a seemingly cheap movie that never changes location I never once got bored. I never once looked at my phone.
I never once checked how much was left. A spring break kickoff party on the beach turns ugly when a small group of people wake up and find out the sand is eating people.
We've got 4 who fell asleep in a car, 2 who shacked up in the lifeguard stand, and one who passed out and was put in one of those metal beach garbage cans after they drew a dick on his face.
A group of the most obnoxious Spring Breakers you could possibly imagine are having a beach party and upon waking up the next day realise that if they so much as set foot on the sand around them, they're going to be dragged to their doom by the scariest badly animated rice noodles you've ever seen So cheap The Asylum and SyFy probably laughed the film makers out of their board rooms, this ostensibly terrible shocker then spends 80 minutes desperately trying to a make us care about these utter ass hats who think while balancing on the smallest strip of wood to escape the deadly killer noodles is the most appropriate time to have a discussion on the health….
Who read the script and thought it would be a great film to work on? The only minimally redeeming quality would be an appearance by Jamie Kennedy.
This one was bad. Of course it's trash but watched with a room full of people and a few beers it's a lot of fun, never boring and will certainly get you laughing at it if not with it.
I love cheap movies with bad effects but this is one time where I kind of wish someone with some cash would take this movie and hire a great effects person and a few actors who aren't so I would love to see that.
But even with the iffy effects and bad acting this is a pretty enjoyable movie. A monster in the sand? Not wholly original but a freakin' fun concept, especially as it picks off obnoxious partygoers during a spring break FIESTA!
The movie is pretty fast moving for a people trapped in a single location movie and there's some gorey cgi ugh!!!
Maybe he paid someone to get the part. I actually really liked this best film for a while that I have watched, it's different it has a resemblance to Sand Sharks but this is more urm sandy based.

A simple and great concept although you might debate if they borrowed it from Blood Beach about a group of hungover teens waking up on a beach after a party only to find themselves being hunted and killed by a creature under THE SAND.
It gets into the action fairly quickly and manages to maintain the tension throughout the entire movie. Heck, not even Jamie Kennedy can spoil it.
Apart from the worst CGI I have ever seen in a movie. Jesus fucking christ, there is not a single half-decent sfx shot here, I kid you not.
And a doubling of the CGI budget. And at least one more semester at acting school, for everyone. A good concept for a low budget horror movie with a few flourishes but it ultimately is about hot young ok actors yelling while not moving which is a problem.
When the monster and the basic rules are revealed about 10 minutes in and the young, hungover victims basically give up immediately for a while, that's fun and good pacing.
Showing that heat exhaustion, hunger, dehydration are also factors that threaten them and which luckily don't tax the very limited CGI budget is a good idea.
Unfortunately to continue escalating, since it's clear the actors can't carry it home, they keep escalating the cgi to worse and worse effect.
