Despite there being a lot of soft gradients and dark palettes, it's rare to see banding or artifacts. The subtitles have been programmed and positioned very well.
I'll add a disclaimer that I'm relatively new to watching Blu-Ray, so I may still be in the honeymoon phase comparing it to DVDs I own, but I'm very happy with the visuals.
The bad: I prefer to watch most anime in Japanese with subtitles, so this didn't bother me, but if you don't like subtitles, you're out of luck - there is no English or any other language dub.
It's extremely disappointing that there's no 5. I'm not sure what more I would have wanted to see. As the title for this review states, this anime is about personifications of battleships and submarines.
This is nothing new to anime, since there are other titles out there that have personifications of inanimate objects.
Anyhow, this series gives you a nice blend of action, drama, comedy, and intrigue. The characters are generally good and likable, epecially most of the personified battleships and submarines.
The overall quality of the picture and sound for this release is top-notch. I had a great time watching this series and highly recommend it to anyone who wants something a little bit different.
This was a nice set but even though it came with 2 sets of disks,.. You simply cannot find this anime anywhere without spending a small fortune and this was one of the best prices i found so far.
Cute anime ship girls. I only wish there was more content and that it continued on after the second movie. Seen this on Netflix maybe 1 to 2 years ago.

Great visuals and soundtrack though could do with even a surround audio track - even a fake one. As others have said the native audio track is only stereo, though the quality is very good nonetheless.
Although the picture is a little soft I suspect this reflects the quality of the origin material the colours are strong and there's little or no bitrate artifacts despite there being nearly 4.
Pity that this still seems to be the only English subtitled blu ray version around, and it's a region 1 disk so you need a multi region player.
Strangely there's a German dubbed release out there not on this release , but no English ones that I can find. I quite like the Japanese audio anyway, it adds to the atmosphere, though I did notice that at least one character changed voice actors during the series..

I read some of the mangas and found out how it went there. Still, the anime shows some major developments and features many of the major characters.
Now, if only the sequel movie was available in Region A blu-ray. The movie largely concludes the story and reveals some mysteries.
Loved it. The blu-ray looks great. The only problem that I had is on dvd the second dvd disk. I was at my cottage, I only had a dvd player. Watched the first dvd disk and was good.
Popped disk 2 and played it. When the menu came up it showed the first 6 episode again. I thought that i placed disk 1 back inside,.
But I had disk 1 in my hand. The second dvd disk is labled wrong at printing I guess. Wish it was dubbed in English, but still great anime.
I still give this 5 stars with the problem with the dvd disk. One person found this helpful. I will continue to wish for a English dub to truly get the impact of the emotions expressed.
It is a good story that made use of the media as a video not a manga. The viewers who wanted to see there book move instead of watching a movie will be disappointed as the stories are different.
The story here is done as a one off self contained set instead of a run on that would disappoint as the rest of the story would remain untold.
There is a movie that closed off the story I would love to get that also. That being said should I only have this I am still a happy customer of the story creators.
