Clint Eastwood was great, and I adore the music in this film. A step up from Fistful , and one of my new favorite Westerns. Crazy how much I used to avoid Westerns.
Lee Van Cleef was 40 years old when he made For a Few Dollars More, but he acts like he is a ghost doomed to wander through west for some years.
To consider this one of the rare sequels that improves upon their predecessors would be an understatement.
With a taut screenplay, tight editing, impressive camera work, Superb cinematography with beautifully framed shots, Morricone 's atmospheric and slow-burning score, a nuanced direction and an unmatched chemistry between Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef , one of the most intimidating villains in a Western, I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said that For a Few Dollars More is about on par with Leone 's masterpiece The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
The latter is still my favourite of his, but I really think For a Few Dollars More has a more daring, challenging and unpredictable script! The complaint I have is that the first act is a bit too cheesy unlike the rest of the film.
Hence, there is kind of a jarring tonal shift between the first and the second act. Between the pretty revolutionary, pretty much genre-defining movie and its genesis lies a brilliantly constructed bridge of a feature.
The thing that I loved about this movie is the fact that our initial anti-hero, The Man With No Name awesomely played by Eastwood, takes pretty much a major stepback.
This is, in one way, Cleef's introduction flick. This is Mortimer's movie, and Eastwood is just passing by. The great thing about this is that it makes the final installment much better, and that comes from someone who watched that last one first, so you can imagine how confused I was when he literally just blast into the opening scene.
Plus you get this somewhat wrong idea that this man is…. Sagged a little in its third act but wow, what a super ambitious and awesome spaghetti western.
Never seen such a big dick energy in a single film. For being a Western and not some gripping suspense thriller, Leone keeps the tension taut throughout as it's never clear who has the upper hand, who is lying, and who has ulterior motives at any given moment in this life-and-death bounty hunting mission.
Eastwood and Van Cleef exude cool and both are ace shooters. The question carried out is can they trust each other, and will their plan work?
He has a brilliant mind and is forever haunted by his past. Leone's incredible sense of style and Morricone's iconic score tie everything up into a stellar package.

A typically memorable musical score by iconic composer, and frequent Leone collaborator , Ennio Moricone adds additional layers to the rough western textures that Leone's visuals provide.

I'm not sure that I've visited many Amazon sites of films or tv series where the product has so many different editions as 'Once Upon Of course that doesn't make the product automatically good, but it does mean it's desirable and the film continues to be available in various formats including a Collectors Edition.
I'm reviewing the Special Collector's Edition which is good enough for me, an avid fan of the modern western, and arguably is as good as the latest with bells-on Blu-ray disc.
Just what they were hoping for is NOT what you get with the film. It is like a huge mural and there are stretches where little appears to be happening but just out of your focus something does occur and there are enough set pieces within the film to warrant its status as one of the greatest westerns ever made it's just not full to the brim with action, it's slow paced, it has a lot of 'method' acting probably not intentional not sure Bronson even knows the term , it's the way Leone casts his actors to fit into his visual interpretation of a scene which he has done since his early sword n' sandal epics, except this film doesn't have the full-on action of his earlier spaghetti westerns.
Didn't mean to malign Mr Bronson as he is perfectly cast as another man with no name, 'cept 'Harmonica' here, and he is as good as Clint Eastwood is in his spaghetti western appearances.
Jason Robards in perhaps his most memorable role without having a meaty script to play with. Claudia, another actress in a very select band of performers that have graced our screens, only has to breathe to set the screen alight.
And Henry Fonda if only he was given the chance to play 'the baddie' in more films it would have added so much to his CV.
The epitome of cold and evil here, a devil in disguise. Then there are the little cameos, most famously at the opening of the film which paved the way for the main course and the dessert I beg to ask the question whether a wonderful cheese should be served before or at the end of a feast?
Some would say we got it early. Sound is superb including the great Ennio Morricone's music. Disc 2 has the bonus features, numerous and informative if you're a fan of the film.
Of course this Collector's Edition is produced and sold in many countries in the language of those countries, a true reflection of the cult status of a film.
I also have a French copy, exactly the same in every respect including the bonus features except the printed words on the jacket are French. No need to comment on the merits of this legendary art-western In terms of scene-setting, photography, lighting, and the awe-inspiring music of Ennio Morricone, it is a benchmark.
The quality of the transfer is excellent, esp. However, some Menu functions on the Blu-ray are primitive or actually non-existent.
Reverting to Menu midway through viewing is either not allowed, or the film reloads and returns to the opening screen.
Equally, the disc cannot be stopped and then resumed from a previous stopped-off point. In the process, Blondie successfully tricks Tuco into revealing the name of the cemetery.
They all arrive at their destination, where Blondie writes the name written on the tomb on a rock and the three engage in a Mexican standoff , resulting in the death of Angel Eyes and in Blondie having previously removed all the bullets from Tuco's gun taking his half of the money and leaving Tuco bonded in front of his.

The soundtrack is very good from Ennio again, RDR2 took inspiration clearly. Cleet van yeef has a lot of screen presence and has a lot great delivery with his dialogue.

This is more than just a revenge flick. I'm a sucker for Bronson movies, if you like Bronson, you'll love this. A timeless movie. One of the greatest westerns of all time..
Henry Fonda gives an exceptional performance and it is a complete departure of what you might think of Fonda as an actor.
The start is kind of slow, but the mystery continues to unravel and Bronson is Bronson to the core.
Jason Robards is also a great casting choice here as the 'wrongly accused' killer which is amusing as he is a bandit through and through and killed more than his share of folks on this journey, but he gives 'heart' to an otherwise heartless creation on the screen which is fascinating to watch unfold.
There is sly and subtle nuances throughout; this is definitely one of my favs and I watch it more than a few times a year. There are so many ways of thinking about the American West and trying to interpret it through film.

Werd Flodders Release oben gepflegt auslassen und Sheila O’Connor Geld sparen evtl. Aber in der Dollar Trilogie ist er der Schwächste. Hoffentlich mit dem originalen Filmkorn. Papperlapapp kann doch eine Entwicklung wie in der ehem. Den Plot übernahm Leone unverändert; statt eines Samurais spielt hier ein Outlaw zwei Gangsterbanden gegeneinander aus, um sich persönlich zu bereichern. Nicht mehr das in jedem Moment ehrbares Handeln definiert diese Figur, sondern ihr unnachahmlicher Stil, der gerade wegen charakterlicher Defizite eine Coolness generiert, die es so noch nicht gegeben hatte.
