Extending the mythology of the cannibal Sawyer family with reams of backstory, 3D limb-severing and not a hint of the terror generated by Tobe Hooper's relentless original, John Luessenhop's belated sequel is as pointless as one feared it might be.
After picking up a handsome hitchhiker, the friends arrive at the imposing property, only to find that Leatherface Dan Yeager — who together with the now dead grandmother and a female baby, survived a shoot-out and torching party staged by outraged locals nearly four decades ago — has been hidden in the basement ever since.
Chronological consistency is not the script's strong suit this would make Heather herself 39 years old , but at least writers Adam Marcus 'Jason Goes to Hell' , Debra Sullivan and Kirsten Elms have made some attempt to revivify the Sawyer family history.

Country: USA. Language: English. Runtime: 92 min. I knew the hitchhiker was going to rob the house when he was picked up.
I knew two people were going to have an affair from the beginning. I knew the girl was going to begin limping when she fell down the very short front steps.

I like this movie because it's a lesser-known Chainsaw movie. The girl who plays the main character has these piercing blue eyes, I love her!
Anyhow, the story is that she gets a letter from a grandmother she didn't know she had she was 'sort of' adopted as an infant and she finds out that she's inherited this grand property.
She goes with some friends to check it out, and in typical horror movie fashion they start getting picked off one by one by Leatherface.
But it's a cute family connection movie, in a way. I did not have hopes at first, but there were so many good reviews, and I thought I'd try it.
It's better than most of the others, except for the original - the totally classic one from Interestingly, this starts with little snips from the original, really enough to help orient any filmgoer who hadn't seen the original.
And sure, it has silly exploitation angles, and gratuitous this and that, but honestly - it's worth seeing!
I have seen a lot of crap, and this is not. Technically on the 3D I don't know that much I have a passive TV television I know some things are filmed in 3D shum's or convert it I've seen good examples of both I have no idea what this was on the passive 3D usually just adds a lot of depth not so much pops out of the screen as it looks like you can jump into the screen it's almost like looking out a window this particular movie did both so well I can't believe it was just like a low-budget slasher kind of movie and it had the best 3D I've seen at one point the chainsaw look like it was about to feed out of my TV screen I haven't seen that with any other movie where it didn't double up its stage straight right down the center looks real spot on.
It was a task to find any of the characters relatable. The hitchhiking Darryl's southern accent was obnoxious. Trey Songz was just eye candy and it was less than cheesy to hear his music being played on the CD player while his character played pool.
Protaganist Heather's outfits and style were weird, it was like watching Lorelei and Rorey Gilmore run around Newt, Texas. None of them fit the film so it was really just another chapter in the slasher universe of obnoxious somethings being fodder for our "beloved" line-up of classic horror psychos.
Give us real people battling a real psycho. That the sheriff found the Mayor to be worthy of death more than Leatherface was a major writing blunder that makes me not trust this film's motives.
Hollyweird just keeps getting weirder and duller every year. I hate, hate , hate when these so called talented Film school graduates decide to take an idea and try to make it better.
And this movie is no exception to the rule. But when you thought that I was gonna leave a bad review, fooled ya!
This joint was a great remake. I gave it 4 Stars because I hated the Black Sheriffs wig in the opening scene. Otherwise than that , well done!

Only one problem here; this one ain't down n' dirty enough Following the events of the original Tobe Hooper original this reboot acts as a direct sequel, obviously forgetting Tobe's own TCM2 where Sally Hardesty has escaped the clutches of the Swayer clan - a vigilante group of the local townspeople descend upon their property looking for blood in reaction to her deranged story of multiple murders committed by a cannibal clan and their maniac killer 'Leatherface' When these vigilantes' led by Mayor Burt Hartman Paul Rae burn down the house and kill the Sawyers, one of Hartman's group discovers an infant and smuggles it away from the scene, leaving all quiet and a supposed end to this terrifying saga Fast forward don't ask which year as the timeline is real screwy and we meet that infant all grown up called Heather Alexandria Daddario who discovers that she's been adopted with her late grandmother leaving her the inheritance of the Sawyer family homestead in Texas However, unbeknownst to them the house harbours a dark secret with a terrifying creature hiding in the basement This next chapter in the 'Texas Chainsaw' franchise if it can be called that, as its quite patchy is a fun, diverting effort but nothing more.
Gone is the sickly, black humoured atmosphere of the Tobe Hooper originals and also the slick, beautiful sheen of the Michael Bay redux - replaced by TV-movie lite execution and toned down horror that feels skewed towards a successful opening night rather than a desire to present a solid 'TCM' outing.

Trading on the original is a misstep especially considering the total disregard for timelines as this doesn't feel inline with those movies at all and would have been more successful as a total rebirth of the character Millennium further compound this error with their next movie, a prequel to this one called Leatherface' which seemingly messes things up even further.
Adam Marcus 'Jason Goes to Hell' , Debra Sullivan and Kirsten Elms' screenplay is a hackneyed effort that attempts to tie up plot holes but in doing so only manages to create more, with a string of setpieces that although are fun - never really hit the heights of what we've seen before.
The cast are game with standouts for lead Daddario who although isn't given much to do does tease at a greater character such a shame this one didn't get a sequel with her and 'Face on a cross country killing spree, but hey ho and villain Paul Rae, whose Hartman is a sleazily cruel creation - but sadly the rest are either cardboard cutouts or woefully underwritten to as not have any real impact or relevance.
Director John Luessenhop 'Takers' handles the material with a serious journeyman quality - sure everything's professional and feels solid, but one misses the sheer insanity of a truly dangerous mind at the helm: Tobe Hooper he ain't.
Report abuse. Worth buying for the extras! A sequel that follows on from the original. It opens with about three minutes of highlights from the original film, all in 3D!
If only that was also released in 3D!!! The movie is not bad, but no where near as terrifying as the original. Proves that showing blood and gore do not always work.
However, the extras, all in HD but not 3D, are worth the purchase price alone. Both Gunnar Hanson and Marilyn Burns are featured, along with featurettes on the characters and how the movie was made.

Watch Now. Critic Reviews. Joe Leydon Jan 4, Helmer John Luessenhop "Takers" and a small army of scripters go back to the bloody roots of the long-running franchise to concoct a better-than-average horror-thriller that relies more on potent suspense than graphic savagery or stereoscopic tricks.
Read full review. Andy Webster Jan 4, Daddario is adequate, while Mr. Eastwood, as a lawman, strikes sinister notes.
Frank Scheck Jan 4, Unlike the restrained film which cleverly relied mainly on suggestion, this version piles on the graphic, often CGI-enhanced gore.
Marjorie Baumgarten Jan 9, Stick around through the credits for an extra closing scene that leaves the door of Heather's new home wide open for a sequel.
There's nothing thrilling about summarily dispatching everybody who isn't meant to survive to the credits, nothing entertaining about meathook, hatchet and chainsaw murdering that we've seen scores of times.
Joshua Rothkopf Jan 4, Nick Schager Jan 4, She decides to bring her friends along on the road trip to investigate her inheritance.
On arrival, she discovers she has inherited a mansion, but is yet to uncover the terrors that lurk in the basement underneath it.
Written by Tom Thomas. Pure garbage. They set the movie in , 39 years after the original. The only character that aged was the Sheriff. The main character was a baby in but is miraculously only about 22 or 23 in which they clearly display on a grave stone, Also in smart phones can stream live HD video in real time over a call.
I wonder how much their data plan is? Which, by the way, brought the film from ridiculous to absurd especially given that streaming the video served no purpose in the story or the scene.
A speaker phone would have sufficed and my disbelief would not have been called back from suspension. So yeah, those are just TWO of the myriad issues this movie has.
This was worse than the remake, by far. There isn't a film maker in the world who could make a good sequel to the original, even Tobe Hooper couldn't do it and HE directed the original.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a perfect film, it needs no more exposition, but this is the era of the retro cash grab.
So everything cool from the 70's and 80's gets dragged out and crapped on for the youth market and they think the winks and nods to the source material will tickle us old fans nostalgia gland.
Well screw you Hollywood. It doesn't. It's lazy film making. You know what made the original so brilliant? It wasn't about anything!
It was simple, I dare say even plausible. Stay away if you have a brain. CGI gore, 'nough said. The 3D was not even adding any degree of anything, it was more distracting than anything, which is more the format, 3D just sucks.
